Burning Bird: a new play by Synergy Theatre Project
About this event
Synergy Theatre Project is a ground breaking theatre company which aims to aid the rehabilitation of prisoners and ex-prisoners and engage young people at risk of offending through theatre and other related activities whilst placing the wider issues surrounding imprisonment in the public arena. http://www.synergytheatreproject.co.uk/
We have been rehearsing an exciting new play for young people over the past 3 weeks
We will be touring Burning Bird by award-winning playwright John Donnelly to London schools and colleges from 8 October to 12 November 2012. It is a new play commissioned for young people aged 13+ and was researched with prisoners, ex-prisoners and young people at risk.
The cast of the play is made up of professional and ex-prisoner actors.
The production supports the teaching of PSHE and Citizenship at KS3 and KS4.
The play follows a day in the life of Daisy, which happens to be her fifteenth birthday. There is trouble brewing, school is suspended and a curfew is imposed. Set against the backdrop of the London riots, Burning Bird questions freedoms and responsibilities and the consequences of our choices.
We will be touring to London Schools for 5 week (8 Oct - 12 Nov) (Still a small number of dates available so if you would like us to visit you... get in touch!)
After we have finished the tour we will be performing at The Unicorn Theatre in November. http://unicorntheatre.com/burning-bird
